Burning Power Lines Close Route 9W Stretch In Hudson Valley

A stretch of Route 9W in Rockland County is closed after high winds brought down power lines, igniting a fire, authorities said.

Emergency crews from the Clarkstown Police Department and Nyack Fire Department responded to the scene after the incident, which occurred on Friday, March 7, at around 1:30 p.m. in Upper Nyack between Glenbrook Road and Christian Herald Road. 

Clarkstown Police have shut down the roadway and are urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.  

Authorities are also reminding residents not to approach downed or low-hanging power lines and to immediately call 911 if they encounter any.
